Dawn Falls Trail is a 2.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Larkspur, California that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. Mostly shade and windy. Only complaint is that coming down the Barbara Springs Trail was quite treacherous. This plunge waterfall drops roughly 15’ with a picturesque backdrop of ferns and California Bay Laurel. This is a great trail to hike or run, even during or after rainfalls. Take a right at top of stairs and follow the narrow road until the end. Shaded for the most part so great for a sunny day. There is a trail head sign for Lower Baltimore Canyon trail. It’s a very level path to and from the falls. Corte Madera Creek Trail Blithedale Ridge Fire Rd. The Sonoma Creek Falls can be reached in as little as a third of a mile via the lower Canyon Trail. I almost fell many times. The climb to the fire road is not too bad, with natural and made made steps. Lots of shade and beautiful trees. The waterfall is a small 20 ft. drop along a small creek. Also much easier in winter to go down Barbara Springs which can be quite dry and slippery in the summer. Took me awhile to get why this was marked moderate. Very wooded, lots of shade, and beautiful through the woods. (Can’t speak for them though). Looking back, probably easier to do it the other way around. Look for Dawn Falls Creek Trail on left just before suspension pipe. Nearby, in the Baltimore Canyon Open Space Preserve, Larkspur Creek produces the Dawn Falls. A bit hot over some parts that are exposed, but that’s to be expected on an 80 degree day. Might be best for trail run.
